Let’s Party

Spring is nature’s way of saying, “Let’s party!”
~Robin Williams

Isn’t that the perfect quote for this time of year.  Everything really looks so vibrant and happy!

HAPPY SPRING!

The Best Strategy

Good Morning!  I’m thinking I should start calling this blog Saturday Mornings with Mer (the nickname my the in-law family bestowed upon me =)   Even then, maybe I should preference that to Monthly …  Flashback a few months: I had all these plans for growing this blog, well, at least I thought I did.  Present day:  I now know having no strategy, for me, is my best strategy! I can’t force more hours into a day to do all the things I want any more than I can force my creative process…

So here it is, Saturday morning, everyone still asleep, the sun just coming up (a lovely site after the week of rainy days we have had here), enjoying that first cup of coffee in my favorite mug (not the steel bubba I usually haul to work with me every day, although if you’re looking to keep your drink hot or cold for hours on end, it does the job…and then some!).  The best part, sitting here telling about it … sharing…for no real good reason other than I can.

Aren’t the colors of summer fantastic?!? Our garden is exploding with color … at least what the little bunnies haven’t eaten.  Welcome to my Garden!

This rose is the newest edition to our garden, a Grandiflora, Cherry Parfait.  Isn’t she a beaut!

The azaela blooms have come and gone, but always put on such an impressive show!

Those bad, bad little bunnies.  I’m glad I got the shot when I did… nothing left but stems 😦 now.

take-another-look

That’s it for today, folks, back out to the garden, like I said, It’s a B-E-A-utiful Morning! and the hydrangeas are feeling a little blue 😉 that I’ve been neglecting them.   Then I’m off to a local hosta and lily nursery.  Can’t wait to see what colors I can add to my garden.

Til Next Time,

Maria  MER 😉

The Little Things Edition

It’s time for another texture Tuesday 🙂

My favorite time of day is the early morning when everything is quiet (except for the birds chirping away) and the rising sun makes everything glow.  And the best part is I get to watch this a few feet from where I work every morning, just inside my own front door.

New Project

My new project is setting up a studio/work space.   Challenge #1:  My new room has red walls.  I know, I can paint.  In addition, it also has a three-sided ceiling which poses some limitations.  I really like the room and its red walls, so I am thinking about hanging sheets, a curtain-like effect.   One plus, the room does get more natural light throughout the day.  The red walls also pose a challenge when working on my photos; I am usually limited to working at night with the lights off to avoid any red color cast.  All things considered maybe it would be easier if I just painted.   Challenge #2:  A very tight budget!   I’ve gotten a few creative ideas from http://www.diyphotography.net.  Any additional comments/ideas would be welcomed!  I’m glad to know I am not the only photographer out there that just can’t pick up their B&H catalog and start ordering.

I guess for now it’s a good thing I like to shoot a lot of macro ~ it doesn’t take a lot of space and I already have almost everything I need.   I think I’ll give this a try:  http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-diy-10-macro-photo-studio.html

I’ll be sure to post my success/adjustments/failures to hopefully help anyone else out there trying to get great indoor shots on a tight budget.  And while under construction, I’ll be taking advantage of the beautiful fall season and continue shooting mainly outdoors.

Stumble

Once in a while, we all need to take a break . . . so sometimes I stumble.  http://www.stumbleupon.com/discover/activity/  It’s a nice little application that you personalize with your own interests and it surfs the web, so you don’t have to.  Of course, one of those interests of mine is photography and I stumbled across this amazing macro photo today!

Unfortunately the original post is all in German (at least I think it is German), so I know nothing about it and am unable to give credit where credit is due.  So If any one can interpret for me here’s the site http://www.naturfotografen-forum.de/o30241-hier+das+zweite+ND
