. . . in the Clouds

That is exactly where my head has been all week, as this week’s 52×52 happens to be clouds.  Before I share my week of clouds, I’d like to share one of my little cloud adventures with you…   It’s not always advisable to walk with your head in the clouds.  My dogs will attest to that.   A week with a beautiful full moon (and some clouds), one morning, I caught a glimpse of the full moon low in the sky (maybe 6 a.m. ish).  So I made sure my iPhone was in my back pocket when it was time to take the “boys”* out.   The “boys” were thrilled as this meant an extra long predawn walk.  On our way…   But every time I got to where I thought there would be an unobstructed view, the moon continued the game of hide & seek.   I picked up the pace (I still had to get to work, after all) … and …then… BAM!  Down I went!  I found a small patch of black ice…the hard way.  The “boys” and I became a tangled mess.  I picked myself up and made sure all my bones were intact and that the “boys” were good to go (I swear Charlie was laughing at me).  More determined than ever now, I quickly continued … on the grass now … only to find the moon had almost completely gone behind a bank of clouds and if that weren’t bad enough … the flash on my phone fired (didn’t even know it was on).  And for all my efforts, bumps, and bruises this was the one and only shot… and what?!?!… no clouds?!?

It’s okay to have your head in the clouds, but remember to keep your feet firmly planted on the ground…  and that’s exactly what I did the rest of the week.

CLOUDS, CLOUDS, . . . AND MORE CLOUDS 🙂

The Clouds …or should I say cloud… moving in.

Cloud_afternoon-lightEvery afternoon winter skies seemed to return, only to start to disappear again just as the sun was starting to set (yep, iPhone again)

So this morning, I finally got my head out of the clouds (well, kinda).

Next week: The color RED

Have a wonderful day!  Hoping to HOP 🙂 in again tomorrow with an Easter greeting.

Til then,
Maria

* The “boys” , in this post and all posts from this time on, refers to my two Golden Retrievers.  Charlie will be 3 shortly and Parker is 5.  Their personalities are identical (seriously, no exaggeration here) to that of Tigger (that’s Charlie) and Eeyore (that would be Parker).

31 days, 16 hours, 20 minutes and ….seconds

A Happy Day After Thanksgiving everyone!  I hope everyone is sufficiently stuffed following their Turkey Day feasts.  Heck, some of you may be working off some of those extra calories right now … out shopping the day away.  Me, I plan to thoroughly enjoy this day off.  This is a HUGE deal for me as I am self-employed (i.e., I don’t work, I don’t make money).  And to take a day off with the Christmas gift list growing…. well, that’s a really big do I/ don’t I decision.   And even bigger since it follows the actual Holiday day off; which, just for the record, I don’t really consider a day off… nope, no way …. not with all the visiting, eating, and merriment 😉 … and by day’s end I can’t wait for my head to hit the pillow!

Today is a real day off…a conscious decision not to work (and that includes housework & cooking)…  A day to start off slow, actually enjoy that first cup of  coffee of the day, to allow myself to actually read (not read on the go) and  take in a little inspiration from all my favorite blogs (and find a few freebies, yippee!)… and get a little lost in web where I found this   (https://pinterest.com/pin/145311525448125176/).  Oh my, so much holiday craftiness and eats!  Seriously, how cute is this crafty little edible.   As soon as I finish up here, I’m grabbing another cup of coffee and see what other wonderful finds are out there…

And while I am feeling the spark of that Holiday spirit, I think I’ll head to the attic and see what kind of Christmas props I can come up with for this year’s Christmas card.  Well, that was actually supposed to start last weekend with a family photo shoot.  Keyword:  Was.   We (I) have never done a “professional” photo card like you see from Shutterfly or places like that, and my daughter has always wanted one.  I must admit they’ve really got some awesome looking designs out there.  To my credit, though, I did this homemade one a few years back. Can’t you just feel the love I put into it?

Back to last weekend …. unfortunately, my son “forgot” and made other plans, and as he was walking out the door said “just Photoshop me in ….”  Oh well, maybe I didn’t fight so hard for the “family portrait” because of how much I really enjoy the process of creating the family Christmas card ….   Here’s a few from Christmas’ past …

feeling a little more creative.  hahaha… he had no choice…

mixing things up even a little bit more.

SO, YES!  today is truly a gift I am giving myself …. a REAL day off.

My Happy

Boy it’s been a busy week . . . well at least photographically 🙂   Hmm, where should I start.  How about with my Happy. Monday’s Beyond Layers post was about finding our happy.  It wasn’t until I stopped over-thinking it that I found it.  And it is . . .  ta-da . . .  all the little things.  It’s that first cup of coffee in the morning.  It’s the unsolicited foot rub.  It’s a tickle fight with the now grown daughter.  It’s a song on the radio that makes you stop everything you are  doing and just listen (that one just happened 🙂  It’s, well, you get the idea.

Wow what a great feeling, so I think I’ll stop there for the night and just go to bed with all my happy.   Goodnight.

p.s.  Check back soon, I’ll be unveiling my self-portrait next =0  and sharing my Beyond Layers “start to finish”.

If you blink you might miss it

Whoo-hoo! I found it! Well, more like I spotted it . . . a fleeting glimpse. But the most important thing is that I know it is there.

Somewhere between those first moments of waking and the last seconds of sleep. Somewhere between Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and the Beatles (hmm, must have been too asleep to remember the name of the song). I brushed away some of the emotional clutter and there it was.  Do I dare say it? Will I jinx it if I say it out loud? Will it disappear again if I do? I can’t take that chance . . . not yet. I’ll just let what I know, what I felt, guide my day.  A happier one it will be for sure.

And so my day began.  As I was jotting down the above story in my journal, I looked up and saw this morning’s magnificent pink sky out the door.  I hesitated (it was early and I don’t think the coffee had quite kicked in yet) and then I quick went to get my camera.  And in my fumbling of whether or not to put it on the tripod or take my chances handheld, run outside in my PJ’s or shoot from right where I was, and the dreaded do I check the settings or just go for broke, I got exactly three shots off before the pink began to fade.  By the time I returned to my desk and took another sip of my coffee a few moments later, the show was over and gray clouds had settled in.

But just like my discovery before I ever rolled out of bed this morning, I knew what I saw, even if just for a moment; and it will always be there . . . whether it is hiding behind some gray clouds or out-shined by the morning sun.
